AUDIO TOUR INFO /

can i drive around and listen to the tour?

Sure! You're welcome to drive to the different mural locations, although you will have to get out of your car to scan the QR codes.

If you are able to walk, we feel that the audio tour (and the murals) are best experienced on foot. Plus: you'll never have to look for a parking spot! The full tour is about 1.5 miles long.

do i have to listen to the tour in order?

No! You're welcome to listen to just one audio segment, or in any order you'd like.

how long will this take?

Each audio segment is about 3-6 minutes long, with runtime for the entire tour clocking in at about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

how many murals are included on the tour?

There are 24 audio segments on the tour, and we talk about 32 murals and pieces of public art in total, created by 29 different artists!

are all of eureka's murals from the eureka street art festival?

Nope! Before ESAF began in 2018, Eureka already had a great tradition of murals. That was one of the big things that inspired the organizers of the Festival - they wanted to lean into something Eureka was already doing well. During the 7 years of the Festival, it created a strong cultural of public art locally, paving the way for many more murals ot be added.

Today, murals adorn the walls of Eureka's buildings from the waterfront to the zoo, bringing color and beautify to almost every commercial block.

How can i learn about the murals that aren't included on this tour?

Many of the ESAF murals are signed with "ESAF" and year they were painted. If the mural was painting during the Festival, you can find more information about it on this website.

Unfortunately, we couldn't include all of the murals that have been painted during ESAF in this audio tour. We chose these ones because they are within the Eureka Cultural Arts District, they showcase an array of artists and styles, and they tell fun stories!

If you find a mural in Eureka that was not painted during the Festival and you'd like to learn more, we recommend looking on the piece for a signature and finding that artist's Instagram page or website for more information.

how do i access the audio tour?

Use the map to navigate to the murals included in the audio tour (or stumble upon a mural with a QR code while exploring Eureka)

  1. There is a QR code located at each mural included in the tour. Scan the QR code using your smart phone's camera, then tap the pop-up link that appears.

    • Alternatively, you can navigate to each mural's audio segment using the menu above.

  2. The QR code will take you right to the audio segment for that specific mural. Make sure the volume is turned up on your phone, and enjoy

who is the narrator of the audio tour?

The Audio Tour is narrated by Tom Wheeler. Tom runs the Arcata-based environmental non-profit EPIC and hosts a number of local radio shows. He has been involved with ESAF since the beginning (and he happens to be married to Jenna Catsos, one of the Festival's organizers).
